The department of Physics established in 1950 at UG level and PG classes started in 1960. The department conducts classes of Physics for B.Sc. in three subject combinations offered by the college. At M.Sc. level two specializations viz. ​Electronics and ​Nuclear Physics are offered. Total sanctioned faculty posts are 14 and students intake for B.Sc. I is 300 and for M.Sc. I is 20. The department is authorised research centre for pursuing Ph.D. The broad areas of research in the department are – Material Science, Solid State Electronics, Medical Physics, Plasma Physics and Atomic Collision. Rich PG library, Computer Lab and Research Lab in the department provide additional features to its Infrastructure.
